The South Bay is the southern part of the Santa Monica Bay located in the southwest corner of LA County. The Bay is also known as the “Queen’s Necklace” because the lights from the homes and buildings that line the beach sparkle at night like jewels on a queen. The South Bay consists of fifteen cities, eight of which have beachfront property, and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the south and west and the City of Los Angeles on the north and east. The Beach Cities consisting of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and the Palos Verdes Peninsula cities have some of the best, most innovative and award-winning schools in the country!

Fun Facts: One of the largest flocks of wild parrots in the United States lives in the South Bay. If you heard squawking in the sky, look up, as these bright green and orange beauties are usually flying in big groups or perched in many of the palm trees around town.

Fun Facts only South Bay locals know…

• If you dress up for a night out you’re probably not from here. Flip flops and board shorts are welcome just about anywhere in the South Bay.
• You don’t have to get on the freeway to get to LAX! Smart locals know to take PCH to the airport!
• South Bay is called “the Bubble” for a reason. There’s so much to eat, see and do here that it’s hard to leave! Plus, if traffic on the freeways is bad, it can take forever to get somewhere outside the bubble!
• The start of summer is the worst time to hit the beach! June Gloom takes over most of June and sometimes into July. The best beach weather is mid August through early October, when most of the kiddos have gone back to school.
• Everyone has had a Special C at El BJs (otherwise known as El Burrito Jr.). If you haven’t, its worth a try!
